Allowing your customers to view prices in different currencies takes just a few minutes to set up. Just follow the simple steps below.
Step 1. Go to Configuration > Currency and click New
| Active: | If you want the currency to be active straight away, tick this box. |
| Currency code: | Select the currency you wish to setup from the dropdown selection |
| Currency title: | Add the currency name here (US Dollars, Australian Dollars, Euro etc) |
| Exchange rate: | Select ‘Use Superia exchange rates’ if you want exchange rates to be automatically updated on a daily basis |
| Select ‘Enter exchange rate manually’ if you want to set an exchange rate (this will not be updated automatically) | |
| Currency symbol: | Add the currency symbol here. You may need to look up the Alt code for some currencies |
| Currency symbol location: | Select left or right. If you select left the symbol will be displayed on the left (£45). Select right and the symbol will be displayed on the right (45$) |
| Thousand character: | Add a character here that will be used to separate thousand units. For example using a comma would display as £10,000 |
| Decimal character: | Add a character here that will be used to separate decimal places. For example using a comma would display as £10.23 |
| Decimal places: | Select from the dropdown options how many decimal places you would like to show. |
| Example: | This shows you how you current settings would display a price value. |
Press save.
Repeat until you have created all the currencies you wish to display.
Step 2. Return to the Configuration > Currency screen and select your default currency. This is the currency you wish to mostly trade in. This should also be the currency that your payment gateway is set to.
Step 3. Now you need to set the default currencies for different countries or areas. Go to Configuration > Regions and Tax.
Here you can set different currencies for specific countries OR for an entire region. If you wish to use US dollars for the US region, select that in the United States default currency dropdown selection.
If you wanted to set Swiss Francs for Switzerland, you would need to expand the Rest of the World region (click on the plus sign in the left of the blue bar), find Switzerland in the country list and select Swiss Francs in the currency dropdown selection).
Tip – if setting UK and Euro rates, set Euro as the default for EU region, save and then expand the EU region and set GB Pounds as default rate for the UK. Save.
Don’t forget to make any currencies active if you haven’t already!
